Our vacation ended the summer this year. The days by the ocean were cool, the surf against the humidity. I waited for the end of summer feeling but it never really came. Not because the nights were still too warm and the morning sun still too hot but because for me there was no change.
And that’s how time slips away. when changes mean less and finally, with distinction, your memories can play like moving pictures instead of still frames, the way the grass moves in the wind.
the sun is rising later. it broke this morning over and through cirrocumulus stratiformis clouds in rose light. a normal morning but somehow still out of place in september that wants to be july. i acknowledged the color and light before nostalgia gripped because I have already taken to wearing pants on morning walks. a contrast to yesterday afternoon in islip where the grey seemed to lie down with the trees and water and say winter, winter soon.
